On June 17, 2009 Barack Obama signed a same sex memorandum that will help couple as any other citizen of the USA. It will expanding federal benefits for the same-sex partners of Foreign Service and executive branch government employees.
Though this is a benefit for federal employee's and there families it is a break though for same sex rights. This will only make it apparent to others that all people have rights and will spread though government.
Before signing the memorandum, President Obama said that this was a first step: "We've got more work to do to ensure that government treats all its citizens equally; to fight injustice and intolerance in all its forms; and to bring about that more perfect union. I'm committed to these efforts, and I pledge to work tirelessly on behalf of these issues in the months and years to come."
